In our August newsletter, we briefly discussed when it is the right time to revamp an older logo design. We want to further expanded upon that! A design isn't a non-perishable item. All designs have an expected shelf life. So, how do you know when your design has expired? The following list will help you to identify if you or someone you know is in desperate need of a revamped logo:
Your Company Launched A Decade Ago
If you have been in business for 10 years +, you need to revamp. I'm sure your company has evolved during this time and it's time to give that brand a face-lift. We aren't saying that you need to start from scratch. However, a nice revamp and relaunch can work wonders for your business! Mastercard International, Inc. recently applied this logic. The company was originally established in 1968 and, since that time, they have revamped about 4 times. Seeing as it had been more then 20 years since their last design update, this revamp was much needed! We are in love with Mastercards's new clean typeface and simple style. We look forward to all their new brand collateral!
It's Not As Appealing As Your Competitors
Periodically, it is ok to spy on what your competition is doing. If you notice your competitor's logo is clean, modern and beautiful and yours is underwhelming and unimaginative, then you might want to change that. Potential clients might think your product is dated if your advertising and logo are dated. You could be loosing business to your major competitors and not even know it. Just look at two of the major pizza companies, Pizza Hut, Inc. and Sbarro, LLC. Both have updated their designs in the last year. We wonder who spied on who. Nonetheless, with the hot new changes we are sure that neither company will be short on the dough!
Your logo is too busy/ literal
One of the new design trends has been simplifying logo design. More clean and clear concepts. Of course Pinch is all here for this design trend and so was the social media giant, Instagram. Earlier this year, they launched their new design. The look consisted of an tailored version of the classic Polaroid camera we have all come to know and love. They also went for a more vibrant color palette. There isn't anything wrong with slimming down your design. Take a look at your logo right now, could it lose a little weight?
There are a ton of signs that will indicate whether it is time to revamp you brand or not. Just follow your instinct. When we revamped last year, it was time to take our company to the next level. We wanted to attract new business and compete with our competitors. We knew our old design had expired. Keeping the above points in mind will help you to identify if you or a friend is in need of a new logo. If that is the case, be sure to contact us! Pinch Design Co. can definitely get the job done!
